PMRDA has released the first tranche of compensation funding – Rs 44 crore – to begin land acquisition for Phase 1 of the Pune Inner Ring Road, an 83km, 65-metre-wide corridor that will need about 735 hectares of land in total. The alignment runs across PMRDA jurisdiction (39.22km, 21 villages), Pune Municipal Corporation (39.27km, 21 villages), and the Uruli Kanchan and Fursungi council areas (4.63km).
Phase 1 covers three villages – Solu in Khed taluka, and Wadgaon Shinde and Niragudi in Haveli taluka – being acquired through direct purchase and private negotiation rather than compulsory acquisition. Landowners who give written consent receive a 25% bonus on the agreed rate plus expedited payment; those who refuse face compulsory acquisition proceedings.
PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhary called it a priority project aimed at a long-term solution to Pune’s traffic congestion. For buyers and landowners, ring-road land acquisition is one of the earliest and most reliable signals of where a city’s next growth corridor will form – worth tracking closely, while weighing the consent-bonus route carefully against the alternative.
